Braun Series 5 Electric Shaver Comprehensive Review

Needless to say, these additional features tend to lift the price a little. You’ll then see some which have an ‘s’ next to the number, while others have ‘cc’. The ‘s’ options are a simpler option, while the ‘cc’ indicates that it comes with a charge and cleaning’ station. We’ll go through how this works when we discuss the cleaning system of the shavers below. However, one notable point of praise was that most reviewers found the shaver simple to clean. The Electric Shaver is 100% waterproof and can be used both wet and dry, with gel or foam, letting you shave your way.

If you treat this as a shaver that you must use with the cleaning station then you won’t be disappointed. For you the simplicity and convenience the cleaning station brings will be more than worth the small price of buying replacement cleaning cassettes. As you may have guessed by the name, travel lock is most commonly used when you are squashing your electric shaver into an already overflowing luggage. Sliding this button locks the shaver head into 1 of 5 different positions and stops it from moving back and forth, ideal for shaving tricky areas like under the nose. Unlike all the other electric shaving brands, Braun’s cleaning cartridges are alcohol based.

All in all, it is great value for money, and most budget-conscious people would be satisfied using it. The number of accessories is quite similar with both series. The main difference is that Series 7 comes with a travel case for convenient packing on the go. Despite the manufacturer’s effort to improve their products, this new launch is a major downgrade from the iteration we’ll discuss below. Select the `Remember me on this computer` option if you wish to be automatically logged on to the computer in future. Please do not use the `Remember me` option if using a computer with public access or that is used by more than one person.

So it’s overall a quiet razor, although not by any means as quiet as a rotary. It is one of the quietest Braun models I’ve used so far, on par with the Series 9 in this regard. I find it too large and unpractical and I would very much rather have a pop-up trimmer always at hand.

If that’s how you use a trimmer in the majority of the time, you probably won’t like the trimmer attachment shipped with the Series s. They’re always there and extremely handy when you need to cut a stubborn hair or Philips Norelco Shaver shape your sideburns. I’d say that the experience is very similar to the Braun Series 3 ProSkin, which isn’t particularly flattering. As mentioned previously, I personally find the new Series 5 a bit underpowered.

The beard trimmer works fine as long as you don’t try to go too fast. The Braun Series 5 has worldwide voltage adaptation and a convenient travel lock. There’s a Clean&Charge station to hygienically clean, lubricate and dry the shaver with a proprietary alcohol-based solution. Although our testers thought the Series 5’s cleaning cartridge was “kind of a pain to install”, they were pleased with its result.

In addition to that, it comes with a couple of attachments in a precision trimmer and body groomer. We will go through how these features fare and affect the overall convenience of the shaver in a bit. I get breakouts and skin irritation from manual razors, and this one is marketed to have skin sensitive technology and can be used wet or dry.

Braun Series 5

It´s very strange that Braun starts to do a downgrade to his produts. But according you words, I understand that these machines (serie 5 & 7) are only for USA. While definitely more expensive than the 5018s, the 5140s is a better shaver in every way. The current Series 5 generation is still one of the more compelling options in the mid-range segment.

Overall, the shaver is a smart solution for men who want advanced shaving results in a mid-range budget. I only shave every 2 or 3 days (I’m retired and can get away with that). Unfortunately, if I do that this razor does not cut all the beard growth and leaves hairs. You have to go over repeatedly, or in my case, go over with my old Norelco I wanted to replace. If I shave again the next day, I am happy with this Braun, otherwise it is a disappointment. The Li-ion battery will ensure up to 50 minutes worth of cordless use, with the option of a 5-minute quick charge function.
