And while the 3 cutting elements can move independently, the head unit of the 5018s is fixed. One of the models in this revamped line is the Braun 5018s (the UK/European version is called 50-B1200s). This Philips Norelco Shaver particular Series 5 is bound to be the pick of the range thanks to its very reasonable price. The only difference between the 5190cc and 5195cc is that the latter also comes with a hard travel case.
Depending on your Clean&Charge Station model and/or program selected, the cleaning time takes up to 3 minutes. It takes several hours until remaining moisture evaporates depending on the climatic conditions. So the 5018s should be better than your current shaver in that regard and quite a lot better than the slide-out trimmer on the 3040s which is in my opinion pretty bad. Considering that you’ll be using the trimmer most of the time and occasionally the actual shaving head, the new Series 5 looks like a good option.
A Panasonic Arc 4 with a mighty CPM motor will shave faster than a Series 5 that uses a CPM unit provided that your beard is reasonably short. The 5090cc/5190cc is very forgiving and gentle to Remington Shaver the skin and I never experienced any discomfort or irritation. It really impressed me how it always provided a perfectly comfortable shave, even when I pressed harder than I normally would.
When the level indicator lights up permanently red, the remaining fluid in the cartridge is sufficient for about 3 more cycles. When the level indicator blinks red, the cartridge needs to be replaced – about every 4 weeks when used daily. Charging will start automatically when the shaver has been placed in properly. The contacts on the back of the shaver need to align with the contacts in the C&C. A beep sound confirms that the shaver sits properly in the C&C. Do not expose the appliance to temperatures higher than 50 °C for extended periods of time.
So this review will also be relevant in the case of the other models like the 5050cs, 5020s or the UK 50-B1200s and 50-W4650cs. The new shavers are a complete departure from the current Series 5 that we all know. The 8 barely gets a mention – and actually doesn’t get very good reviews on other sites.
Over the years, one major criticism of Braun shavers has been their higher price. For example, when we compare different Braun series to their counterpart Panasonic series, we see noticeable price parity. However, in these newer models, we see a price drop from earlier models.
In terms of accessories, 5050Cs come with a charging stand which 5020s and 5018s lack. Other than that, 5050Cs has a precision trimmer and a body groomer. However, 5018s comes only with a precision trimmer Remington Shaver and lacks a body groomer. 5020s, on the other hand, comes with a precision trimmer and also has five beard attachment combs which give you the ability to adjust beard length from 0.5mm to 7mm.
