Second, the superior connectivity of OcuSync 2.0 eliminated any signal interference that caused us some erratic drone movements on the Mavic Mini. Just like the first generation Mavic Mini, the Mini 2 weighs in at 249 grams, or 0.548 lbs, so you do not need to register the Mini 2 with the FAA before you fly. Of course, the moment you add the prop guards, or a heavy decorative sticker, it may tick over and require registration. Part 107 operators need to register regardless the weight.
The absence of these features makes the Mini SE less than ideal for any type of professional drone photography use case. The remote controller of the Mini SE features foldable arms and is decidedly more compact dji drones than the one that comes with the Mini 2. Granted that the Mini 2 controller looks sleeker and so much more professional, the Mini SE controller eschews the modern design for something that is more portable.
The geofence can also be set to keep the drone within a certain radius of the remote, and I absolutely recommend that first-time pilots take advantage of it. Visual range depends on conditions, of course, but suggest beginners take advantage of the feature. You can also charge the battery in-drone, via the aircraft’s USB-C port. While wind can be a limiting factor, I find the Mini 2 is easier to fly than any of DJI’s larger drones. It’s nimble and almost begs to be flown more like a racing drone. I had fun zooming around the yard, dodging trees and bushes in ways I would never try with the larger, heavier, less maneuverable models. In fact, the bigger drones usually end up feeling like flying cameras to me. The Mini 2 is capable of much-more-impressive aerial acrobats. The phantom 4 2 also includes a QuickTransfer feature, to pair with a nearby drone using WiFi for faster downloading of the full resolution files to the phone.
There could also be other upgrades, such as better camera and image processor that could, let’s say, record at 4K60. Jasper Ellens, who has previously leaked the dji fly specs of the Mavic 3, says he doesn’t think it’s fake and is instead a “complete redesign”.
