Dyson might solve the biggest issue with robot vacuum cleaners

As per the reports by The Verge, the unannounced vacuum cleaner may be called the Dyson 360 Hyperdymium. Reports also suggest that the Dyson vacuum cleaner will be equipped with the brand’s strongest motor, the Hyperdymium bissell crosswave cordless , which is supposed to be more reliable and quieter than a brushed motor. “So the requirements of a deep network are to a large extent misaligned with the requirements of an Army mission, and that’s a problem.”

Intelligent Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping technology allows the Dyson 360 Heurist™ robot vacuum to position itself in the room. As it travels, sensors take distance measurements every 20 milliseconds. As mentioned above, a robot vacuum is not the same as a stick vacuum. While both will get your house clean, their cleaning approach is quite different. The design of the Dyson V8 is most similar to that of the Dyson V6 or V7 (see our V8 vs. V6andV8 vs. V7 comparison). It is a 2-in-1 vacuum that functions as a handheld or stick vacuum.

Ultimately, though the 360 Eye’s real limiting factor is the price tag, which runs $999 in the U.S. (and an even steeper $1,299 in my home country of Canada). That’s a lot of cash, and $100 more than the top of the line offering from iRobot’s Roomba lineup. Once you’ve created a map, you can divide it into zones, splitting it into different rooms. Each zone can be labelled with a room type, with a handy icon allowing you to see at a glance how your home is split up. The BBC is not responsible for the content of external sites.

This bar doesn’t extend right to the edge of the vacuum like they do on the Dyson, but two spinning brushes sweep dust into its path, so it can clean right up to the skirting boards. Edge cleaning is a bit of a question mark as it won’t hug baseboards tightly as a Roomba would, often times only going within a centimeter or so according to TrustedReviews. Another feature that differentiates this from other robots is the thing that moves this around, instead of using the standard rubber wheels the 360 Eye uses tank tracks for several reasons. It almost doubles the height of any current Roomba or Neato vacuum which hurts its ability to clean under furniture. Espite recognizing the robot over Wi-Fi, it wouldn’t fully pair in the app itself.

In structured environments like factories, this works well enough. But in chaotic, unfamiliar, or poorly defined settings, reliance on rules makes robots notoriously bad at dealing with anything that bissell crosswave cordless could not be precisely predicted and planned for in advance. In the US, we would anticipate a price point of $1,099.99 or more. While iRobot’s Roomba might be more of a household name when it comes to robot vacuums, Dyson has cornered the market on high-end uprights for some time now. And if its first entry into robotics is any indication, iRobot had better watch out. On the downside, the lack of a camera means that it loses some handy functions on the accompanying iRobot app, specifically smart mapping. For instance, there’s no ability to select different rooms which is a brilliant function on the more expensive models.

If you aren’t a fan of the Dyson stick vacuum line-up, there are plenty of Dyson uprights that are great choices as well. We really like theDyson Ball 2 Multi FloorandDyson Ball Multi Floor(gen. 1 model, less expensive). Dyson tends to have the better suction required for a complete clean on carpeted floors. The dust bit design of the V7, V8, or V10 gets increasing better as the models go up, pushing the debris out of the bin instead of relying solely on the debris falling out on its own.

However, as you’d expect, it wants to take the design a step further, by potentially introducing an innovative robot vacuum cleaner which can climb stairs. Dyson has built up a reputation for its unusual designs and rightly so when you consider how iconic some of its products have become. From air purification to hair care and, of course, vacuum cleaners, Dyson has slowly and successfully branched out into new sectors and now commands a presence in each market. It takes a while to get accustomed to the Roomba J7+, the $850 robot vacuum, and the Braava Jet M6, the $450 robot mop, both from iRobot. The devices rely on cameras, sensors and artificial intelligence to create a map of your home. Once a map is created, you can label each room and tell the robots to clean specific areas or to clean everywhere.
