Luckily the 360 Eye and the Roomba 980 make use of wheels and tank tracks for mobility. Touch sensors allow it to reverse and go around obstacles and drop sensors keep it on level floors. While the brush bar does go the entire width of the machine, it does not extend past it. Debris along edges and especially in corners is easily missed. The Dyson has a drop sensor to prevent it from falling off ledges or tumbling down stairs. While dark colors on carpet or tile flooring can confuse the sensors, it is less likely to avoid false drops like the Roomba 980 is prone to do.
This is certainly not a “stripped down” model, but is within the $$ price tier, making it a nice middle-of-the-road kind of a vacuum. On hardwoods, the cleaning performance was literally flawless. This model simply covers every room on the same floor as if it were one large space. Another thing it doesn’t have is a ‘keep out’ zone function which can be handy if you have areas you’d like the vac to avoid. These are extremely useful functions to have on board but they’re not essential so if you’d rather the vac didn’t trundle into a specific room, simply close the door or put up some kind of barrier. Run the vacuum cleaner over new carpet and its bin will come back full of fluff; run it on a hard floor and you’ll be amazed at how much dirt this robot picks up. You are able to view the map on your smartphone which makes it each to know if it’s missing any spots. The usability of the Roomba 960 is similar to the 980 model. With the wifi-connectivity, you can control the robot vacuum directly from your smartphone or tablet, or use the enabled-voice control to pair up with a smart device and control simply with your voice.
