The grates for this unit are not like I am use to in that they are plates. I was concerned with the amount of heat generated and made my concern known to Weber’s support group.
The enameled cast iron cooking grates are easier to clean and distribute heat more efficiently. All portable grills, in our experience, struggle to control their internal temperature. Not surprisingly, this grill doesn’t offer the control of full-size grills. This is not to say that it cannot be controlled, but that it will likely take a bit of a learning curve until you figure out how to do so. Temperature control tends to run away if this grill still has room to heat, i.e., it has yet to achieve its maximum temperature. Still, our testers were able to control the heat of this grill better than other models.
When you first take a glance at the 2200, without proper perspective or background on this product, there is no way to know whether this is an outdoor or indoor product.
