Face Masks for Children During COVID

Firefighters can be sure their faces have the same level of FR protection that the rest of their gear provides with the inherent flame resistance of Nomex®. Hosted on March 16, 2021, our DuPont Personal Protection team provided an update on the latest Medical masks guidance, face mask selection criteria, and FR face covering standards to consider in the industrial space. Unlike chemically treated fabrics, Nomex® is inherently flame resistant, providing protection that’s built into the fiber and can’t be washed out or worn away.

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration has stopped enforcing the mandate and major U.S. airlines made face-covering optional on domestic flights. The Department of Justice said April 20 that it will appeal the ruling. The university has utilized reputable suppliers to source the masks needed to meet our enhanced masking requirements. The Department of Environment, Health and Safety reviews documentation provided by the manufacturer supporting that their masks meet the KN95 performance requirements.

For example, if you only have two-layer masks, or if your disposable surgical mask has side gaps that a well-fitting cloth mask would pin down, then double up. However, it’s far more effective to use one mask that fits correctly. These KN95 masks offer six layers of protection, including a soft inner lining that’s good for sensitive skin. The foldable design has an adjustable nose bridge and thick ear loops for extra comfort.

Wearing a mask that offers a snug, but comfortable fit helps to protect you and others from the coronavirus. You want a snug fit across your nose, on the sides, and under your chin. If you wear a disposable mask, choose one that has several layers of non-woven material. Choose a size that fits properly over your nose and mouth and comes with a nose wire.

Disposable masks are affordable and easily found through large retailers. But it can be hard to independently verify their efficacy or provenance. And given worldwide shipping delays and stock shortages, it can be hard to predict when they’ll arrive. However, if you need to keep extra masks in your car or donate masks to your kids’ school, these are affordable and light. They have also been certified to one of the ASTM’s three levels of efficacy. These are a Level 3, which means they’ve been tested to over 99 percent efficacy at keeping out bacteria and particulates, and moderate efficacy at keeping out fluids.

Masks may make it hard for people with certain conditions – such as people who are deaf or hard of hearing – to communicate with others. As we learn more about COVID-19, recommendations and guidance are updated frequently. The University is making disposable surgical Disposable maskss available throughout many campus locations. Pinch the top edge of your surgical or KN95 mask so it presses gently on your nose bridge. To remove your used mask, hold only the ear loops/straps. Expand the mask so that it covers your mouth, nose and chin.
