A cloth mask is intended to trap respiratory droplets that are released when the wearer talks, coughs or sneezes. It also acts as a face mask barrier to protect the wearer from inhaling droplets released by others. In my bin of masks, this one is incredibly distinctive.
Look for a mask that fits your face well and is comfortable enough that you’ll be willing to use it. There shouldn’t be any gaps around your nose, mouth, and chin. A series of layers of fabric makes more places for virus particles to stick instead of going out into the air. Use the mask that’s most comfortable so you’re more likely to keep wearing it. Be sure to check that the filter material doesn’t have something dangerous like fiberglass in it.
All individuals, regardless of vaccination status, should also wear a mask during isolation and quarantine periods to stop further community spread. Gov. Pedro Pierluisi lifted the territory’s face-covering mandate March 10. The order, which had been in place since July 28, required people age 2 and over to mask up in public places indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
Masking remains mandatory for all in health care settings such as hospitals, doctors’ offices and urgent care centers; long-term care facilities; and shelters. The city of Bridgeport ended its indoor mask mandate Feb. 23 and New Haven did so March 7. Gov. Gavin Newsom lifted California’s indoor mask mandate March 1.
Gov. Phil Scott lifted Vermont’s mask mandate and all other COVID-19 restrictions June 15, 2021. As of Feb. 28, masks are not required in schools where at least 80 percent of students are vaccinated. Gov. Larry Hogan ended Maryland’s statewide mask mandate along with all other COVID-19 emergency orders July 1, 2021. The state’s two largest counties, Montgomery and Prince George’s, lifted indoor mask orders in late February, and the city of Baltimore did so March 1.
This is due in large part to the collective efforts of Californians to get vaccinated, get boosted, and wear masks indoors. The mask requirement has been lifted, though masks remain required in certain healthcare and congregate settings. Masks are also required regardless of vaccination status in certain settings, including while in health care facilities.
Certain groups of people may find it difficult to wear a mask, including people of any age with certain disabilities. The masks are made from jersey cotton and have a pocket for holding a filter. Unlike some of our other picks, COVID 19 Test Kits which loop behind the ears, these tie around the head. It makes them a little harder to pop on and off but more comfortable for extended wear. This might be a good option if you need to wear your mask all day, every day.
Do not use on small children or persons with breathing or other medical conditions.
