Anyway I can edge the whole property and trim all I need to (around the house – front landscaping – etc) all on one battery charge. Yes I admit if you had more you might want to invest in another battery and they aren’t cheap. I think battery powered stuff is great for people that don’t know how or want to properly maintain gas powered equipment. I think you pay more for that convenience.

The POWERLOAD String Trimmer is much, much quieter than my gas trimmer and it also doesn’t vibrate my arms into numbness like the gas model does. It’s great that technology today allows a battery trimmer that matches the power of a gas model. After using the EGO for many days, I can’t imagine going back to my gas trimmer. Whereas the other EGO straight shaft trimmer has the motor at the battery and a drive shaft.
The 15″ cutting swath and heavier 0.095″ twisted line was definitely appreciated. I don’t think a lighter duty trimmer could have handled what I pushed this EGO through. I bought the first Ego product, the 12″ string trimmer, when it first came out about 4-5 years ago. It was a disaster due to a poorly designed head that made line feeding frustrating, no matter how carefully the string was wound on the spool.
The battery will hold its power for 30 days, so there’s no worry if it has been sitting for a while. The battery can also be left in the charger—it won’t overcharge. The build quality of most of the battery operated chainsaws, trimmers, blowers that I’ve held do not feel very skookum. There’s not really a mower designed to cut that kind of land, and I’d have to have more trimmer/blower batteries than I’d like to pay for. I’d like to see them bring out an attachment system capability with the CF shaft but I wonder how the real weight savings over the AL shafted products actually is. No more mixing gas and oil but still having the power.

The thing I liked most about the old one was the slow speed variable control for going around fences and flowers. If I knew the new model was not as capable when it comes to variable speed would probably not have purchased it. I have owned three gas powered string trimmers in my life, and being very frustrated with the last one I ventured to purchase this new electric Ego Power string trimmer. It makes much less noise, starts immediately with a press of a button and no struggling with a choke and pulling a start cord. It’s much lighter than my gas trimmer, and has MORE power, and the auto feed of the string line is a blessing and saves me a lot of time .

Mentally, I still call trimmers weed wackers, but I think that’s a brand name so “trimmer” it is. The EGO string trimmer is the latest in a line of trimmers EGO has produced. This one comes with a carbon fiber split shaft and what EGO calls POWERLOAD string loading.

Fortunately, the guard keeps the flying detritus from our faces, and the noise level is what we’ve come to expect from quieter battery-powered tools. Ego sells larger batteries for longer jobs, as well as a rapid charger, and these are pricey, especially if you’re not committed to the Ego line of tools.
Innovation is great, but if the string doesn’t cut, the rest doesn’t matter. EGO rates their latest string trimmer for both 0.080″ and 0.095″ line and it comes pre-spooled with 0.095″. We recommend you stay with the thicker line. The Powerload trimmer handles it well and you get better cutting and durability. What’s not clear yet is whether the new PowerLoad multi-head string trimmer attachment will work with the original EGO powerhead.
