However, it’s no secret that fried foods aren’t doing any favors for your health. Indulging in fried food once or more every week puts you at a higher risk for some health issues. The 10 Quart Instant Pot Vortex Plus 7-in-1 Air Fryer Oven is a feature-packed product. However, with all the cooking functions considered, it’s still a pretty straightforward machine.
However, we weren’t sure exactly how to get the food out. If you’re going to buy the Vortex air fryer, we’d suggest you invest ina set of silicone tongs. We managed with a serving spoon and a spatula, but it’s not ideal.
And that reheat mode at 280 works really well for leftover pigs in a blanket. While the machine claims to broil, it has a set temperature of 400º. Compared to my oven at 550º, that isn’t nearly hot enough. If you don’t have a broiler in your oven this is a solid alternative, but when using it for things you already broil you will need to adjust the time to compensate for the lower temperature.
Its hot air vents were at the back rather than the top, which meant we needed to bring it forward on the countertop, too. The crisper tray that comes with the unit, though dishwasher-safe, has an abundance of small airflow openings. But when you have to use a skewer to get food debris unstuck, it quickly becomes a nuisance .
The square design holds more than the other round type units. Made the best zucchini sticks–crunchy outside, tender inside. Initial impressions are that the basket is easy to pull in and out, and that it has a large capacity. We thought it would likely be roomy enough to feed a family, while the basket insert fitted in snuggly for ease instant vortex of use. We also liked that there was a spacer on the back of the machine which we hadn’t seen before, a simple way to ensure it sat away from the wall at a safe distance so as not to let it overheat. We quickly washed the basket and the frying tray with warm soapy water before use, cleared a spot on our worktop for it and plugged it in.
As with all of our air fryer reviews, our first task was to get cracking on some good old-fashioned spuds.
