Cooking Knives & Kitchen Cutlery

Thanks to individual colors, you will never face cross-contamination when you use these knives. The knives also come with durable blade guards that match the color of the knife and protects them from rust, dents, and scratches. This Shun set give you the very best in Asian knives. Crafted by hand in Japan, they’re forged of Damascus steel which is created by welding together different alloys and folding them into layers. The process leaves a beautiful swirled pattern on the blades and also gives them durability and keeps them sharp. You’ll notice the blades are highly polished and super smooth and carrots and potatoes fall away from the blades rather than stick to them.

First, you want to determine the style of knife you want based on the way you cut. Most commonly, you’ll find European-style knives which have heavier handles and curved blades for the rocking back-and-forth method of cutting. Alternatively, there is the Asian- or Japanese-style of of knives that are lighter and flat on the bottom for more of an up-and-down motion. Inspired by the cuisinart knife hammered tsuchime finish of Japanese knives, the Artisan series is Cuisinart’s biggest departure from their Classic series. They still use forged high carbon stainless steel blades, though there is no bolster to protect your lead finger. This 12-piece set includes six knives and six knife guards, ensuring they’ll cut, pare, slice, chop, and other verbs, all while staying sharp.

They cut differently, but I think they are not as easy to cut yourself and have a lighter touch. They come with nice covers that would have to be removed for the magnet, though. I really like the covers to protect the blade .

Cuisinart knife sets are some of the most affordable knife sets on the market without sacrificing quality. Plenty of great Cuisinart knife sets are available for $50-$80, with the only sacrifice being lower handle qualities. The most expensive Cuisinart knife sets, those with the best blades, handles and extras, can get close to the $200 mark though few, if any, hit or surpass it. Knife blades are either forged or stamped from steel.

That’s because a paring knife requires delicate movements, and even a small slip can lead to nicked fingers. The textured grip from the Graphix series helps keep this paring knife firmly in your grip. Cuisinart made a name for themselves starting in 1971, with the introduction of their home use electric food processor. Now, nearly 50 years on, they’ve branched out into every area of kitchen tools and appliances, including cutlery. Most household knives are made from stainless steel, which is rust-resistant and durable.

Again, this is a product of both the material used for the handle and how it’s shaped. The Graphix collection is an excellent example of a highly slip-resistant knife. In the gold standard full tang knives, one piece of steel will extend from the tip of the handle through the butt of the knife. The Cuisinart Classic, Graphix, and Nitrogen are full tang knives. The Graphix series paring knife is the major standout from this line.

French knives have a straighter edge, which is better for slicing. A good knife should feel like an extension of your hand. It should be comfortable to grip and easy to control. Neither the handle nor the blade should feel exceptionally heavier than the other.
