All eight scored a very good overall in our tests, and one scored high enough to make our recommended list. We can’t speak to the reliability of the Genesis II grills just yet, because they’re new to the market. But Weber has been a solid brand, according to our reader survey of nearly 16,000 grill owners. The new E2i electronic ignition system is more durable and more reliable compared to previous incarnations. We believe that the E2i system is the most superior ignition system Weber has ever created. Below is an up-close picture taken after we dismantled one of the Weber II grills to its most basic components.
On both the CharBroil SmartChef and Weber Genesis II, the ribs were too thin to shield their probes from ambient hot air under the lid. As a result I fell back to cooking by time instead of hitting a target thermometer reading. Both grills turned in slightly underdone ribs after a 3-hour cook, so I bumped the time up another 30 minutes for round two. A high-performance 3-burner gas grill from the market leader, Weber. I had different manufactured grill in between my first one and this one and I was never really happy with it. I got 16 years out of my first one and hope to get 16 more out of weber genesis 2 this one. Here are some photos I took of these grills and comments on each. We purchased the Weber Genesis II E-210 Propane Grill so our reviewer could put it to the test.
You’ll notice a single push-button igniter on the Genesis II series, with an igniter on each individual knob (featuring easy-press design) on the Genesis II LX series. The LX series also boasts an ambient light and high-heat option on each unique knob, a luxurious set of features that also serves to set the LX series apart. This natural gas grill is factory built to operate using natural gas only. Natural gas is delivered by your local utility through an underground pipeline system. Confirm that the branch supply line from the house to the grill is properly installed before using the grill. Using only the left burner, I tried coaxing the unlit right two-thirds up to a consistent 225 degrees, after letting the grill preheat for 15 minutes.
The Genesis II series also has more space to grill with compared to the Spirit II series. All models of the fully loaded Gensis II Special Edition comes commerical grade 9 mm Stainless Steel Cooking Grill Grates, and the Weber iGrill 3 (app-connected digital thermometer). It also comes with a warranty, as do all grills from Weber.
It’s a good size grill for big families or gatherings and for many people there won’t be a lot of motivation to spend $200 – $300 extra on the 4-burner or larger models. Personally I’m not sure if there was really a call for a 2-burner Genesis, but here it is and it is an excellent grill either way. It just happens to be surrounded by really good competition in the Spirit II models.
I ran three such tests of six 5.3-ounce burgers each pressed from the same hamburger press. I flipped all of the burners on high and gave the grill 10 minutes to preheat.
