Philips Norelco Shaver 9700 with SmartClean, Rechargeable Wet Dry Electric Shaver with Cleansing Brush Attachment, S9721 89 Best electric shaver, Best electric razor, Mens shaver

Now electric shaving does get used to as you are essentially dragging dry metal over a dry face. I personally use a pre-shave but because this shaver was waterproof I jumped in the shower to test it out. It is also worth mentioning that the trimmer head will not fit in the travel case. If you want to shave while on holiday, you will have to pack the trimmer head separately.

I personally prefer it to the click-on trimmer attachments of the more expensive Philips razors. The blades are called ComfortCut by Philips and they’re supposed to be gentle on the skin — we’ll see how that pans out in the performance section later on. A new, high-end manual razor is meant to duplicate the old school, hot-towel-shave experience. Braun offers a Series 8 shaver at select retailers, and that version sells for less than a Series 7 usually does. The S9000 Prestige’s digital battery indicator is more precise than the temperature-gauge-like bar on other models we’ve considered, but both are fine in day-to-day use.

When reading the second number on a Braun razor model you’re going to be looking at the generation. The difference between a Series 93xx vs. a Series 94xx is the year the generation was released. A Series 94xx is currently the latest generation and was released in 2021. The same is true Remington Shaver for the Series 83xx compared to the 84xx; the 84xx is the latest 2021 generation. For starters, the Braun Series numbers are like the different types of performance levels. A Series 7 has less specs than a Series 8, and the Series 9 has better specs and features over both of the two.

I find the Braun is quicker and feels more like ‘proper’ shaving but for those with very sensitive skin Philips’ rotary action might be better. Battery life is very good (50 mins on a full charge of its Li-Ion battery) but the sparse icon-based manual sucks and I’m not the only one to think so. But, hey, that’s small fry stuff compared to the Series 7 70’s insane ability to shave so amazingly close.

Further upping the Luxe Quotient, Philips 9000 Series Prestige also comes with a wireless Qi charging pad, which you can also juice your phone and other compatible gadgets on. Battery life is solid – I get several weeks worth of shaves out of every charge. Another big thing in the favour of the Prestige is that it looks way better than the Braun Series 9 – and, come to that, all Philips’ own other shavers. When you pick it up, you might be a bit disappointed that it is actually plastic and not the steel that it looks like. However, the grip is really comfortable and ergonomic, and there’s no denying it looks great. This is an unusual situation where the product at #1 is slightly less good than the one at #2.

Philips Norelco Shaver

A surprisingly close shave that requires only a few passes if you’re using on a day-to-day basis. We’re talking the kind of close shave where you will barely feel your stubble. The shaver is cordless and can be identified by its model number S1560. ComfortCut Blades Get a clean shave that’s comfortable on your skin. Rounded blade caps shield 27 self-sharpening blades to gently cut hair just above skin level and help the shaver glide smoothly over your skin. I will say, as someone who shaves to skin most of the time, I got an impressively smooth shave from such a simple product.
