Roomba® Robot Vacuum Cleaners

This system looks dumb, and some people simply can’t stand to watch it. The bots might even (semi-randomly) miss a patch of ground or even an entire room in any given session. But if you run the bot at least a few days per week, your floors should stay pretty tidy.

The S9 Plus can navigate and map multiple rooms and floors, while avoiding “keep-out zones” that you can designate. The app also lets you use Alexa or Google Assistant commands bissell crosswave cordless to tell it to begin cleaning a room. One of the best innovations in the robot vacuum space in recent years has been the development of models that can empty their own dustbins.

If you have both carpet and hard flooring throughout your home, you might want to consider a hybrid that can do double duty as a vacuum and a mop, such as the Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI or the Bissell SpinWave Wet and Dry. Standalone robot mops aren’t eligible for this list because they don’t suck up dirt and debris, but they will get your hard floors nice and shiny. In addition, robot vacuums have reached the point where they’re just as powerful and effective as regular vacuums. The robots rounded up here combine spinning brush rolls and side brushes to clean your home just as well as their upright equivalents.

Often the machine would push the piece of fake poop from one end of our test pen to the other. Depending on the size of your house, a robot vacuum can save you anywhere from minutes to hours of your time every week by taking care of a pretty thankless chore. The Proscenic M7 Pro is a smart, powerful robot vacuum that can also mop small spaces. With Imprint® Link Technology, your Roomba® j7/j7+ Robot Vacuum and Braava jet® m6 Robot Mop shark cordless can team up to vacuum and then mop in perfect sequence, giving your floors a comprehensive clean without any effort from you. The vacuum uses LiDAR to map and navigate along with infrared drop sensors to detect stairs, but it kept mistaking the base of my cat condo for stairs and asked to be moved away from it. Though it claims a whopping 180 minutes of runtime, it ran down at 110 minutes and died before it made it back to its base.

The iRobot Roomba j7+ might induce sticker shock, but it’s one of the smartest standalone robot vacuums you can buy. It uses a built-in camera and machine learning technology to recognize obstacles in its cleaning path in real time, and automatically reroute itself around them. Another feature that stands out on the Shark IQ XL is Evacuate and Resume, which is designed for homes with lots of pet hair. The V3S Pro uses a small suction opening to scoop up debris, much like a regular vacuum, instead of the spinning roller brush on the bottom used by most robots. While the suction isn’t the strongest I’ve seen on devices in this price range, it avoids having hair and carpet threads build up and get stuck in a brush, and therefore helps it pick up more hair and dirt. Two side brushes with three bristles each push hair and dirt into the robot’s path, and do a great job.

Consider the layout of your home and whether you have mostly hardwood floors or deep-pile carpeting. If you live in a Victorian-style home or have medium- to high-pile carpeting, a robot vacuum will likely require a lot of input from you. However, if you live in a more modern, open-flow style of home with tile or hardwood floors, a robot vacuum is a great option.

The S7+ works well on hard flooring and carpet, but is best for homes that have both. With four vacuum power levels—Quiet, Balanced , Turbo, and Max, topping out at an impressive 2,500Pa of suction—it’s an excellent option for homes with pets and carpeting. With the ability to empty its own dyson robot vacuum dustbin and wash its own mop, the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is one of the most self-sufficient two-in-one robot floor cleaners we’ve tested. When it encounters potential obstacles that aren’t in its database, the j7+ snaps photos and asks you whether it should avoid those areas in the future.

However, we still predict that Roomba bots on average will last longer than any of their competitors and work better at getting hair out of rugs. We haven’t tested the i3 EVO since its software was updated to include smart mapping, but when we do, we’ll report back with the results. When we initially tested and recommended the i3 EVO, it didn’t have any smart-mapping features. That is, the i3 EVO couldn’t remember your home’s floor plan from session to session, and you couldn’t designate no-go zones or ask the bot to clean rooms in a specific order while ignoring others.

It learns your cleaning habits and then offers up custom cleaning schedules—taking on daily dirt, dust, and debris from carpets and hard floors. It even has an edge-sweeping brush to get into corners and along edges. Google Assistant and Alexa compatibility let you start a cleaning session with just your voice, or simply use the iRobot Home App. When your area’s pollen count is high or during pet shedding season, the Roomba 677 robot vacuum can even suggest extra cleanings —to help keep your floors clean every day of the year. Previously a base model to consider, the newer options offer better power and more functionality than this Roomba.
