Weber Grill Q 1000, 1200, 1400, 2000, 2200, 2400 and Q3200 Review

The grill is large enough to cook for 4-8 people, highly affordable and looks great. Bought it for camping, but use it at home all the time. Opted for the 20# tank hose, easier to use, less running to store to get more 1# bottles. The biggest complaint from negative reviews was about how hot the weber q grill was, and in some cases, how hot it wasn’t. I would guess that most of these people had regulator issues, and in many cases, could easily be solved by contacting Weber’s customer service center. After you have finished cooking for the day, let the grill cool off enough to handle the grates.

Last, but certainly not least, we wish this model came with a latch to secure the lid. Though it doesn’t solve the issue, the cast aluminum lid is at least heavier than most, so it doesn’t bounce around much during normal travel. But if you’re planning on four-wheeling into your BBQ site, consider using a bungee cord to help secure it. While reading reviews of the grill, I noticed that several people mentioned it can take a while to pre-heat, so I shut the lid and went inside to prep my burger. When I checked on the grill five minutes later, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the lid thermometer already read 400 degrees.

I have a lot of experience with the Q Series grills and, while I am a big fan of the Q series, there are a few things that could be improved. In fact, when I was shopping for a new grill I took a hard look at this one at Costco but bought another Weber model instead. Please keep in mind that while the body of the grill will never rust, the grates and burner tubes will if you do not keep the grill properly cleaned between uses.

When I put these grills side by side and asked my daughter which she liked better it took her less than a second to point towards the Traveler. If you were just to look at the grates and burner on a Traveler and the similarly sized 2200 then you would be hard pressed to find any meaningful differences. I’ve also noted this issue up in the Quality section of this review. I agree it’s an obvious design flaw they should have caught and should fix. If you can believe it, I gathered over 3100 reviews and found that over 94% of Weber Q 1200 reviews were positive. Only 4% were negative, and the other 3% were lukewarm. Also, keep in mind that if you have issues lighting the grill, read the manual to learn how to troubleshoot the igniter, regulator, and burner.

This grill is the only Weber Q that can be bought as a natural gas grill model instead of a propane gas grill only. It can also be hooked up to a 20-pound propane tank. A cart is also available, converting the Weber Qfrom a portable grill to your permanent backyard or balcony grill.

Such that, you do not have to worry over gas cylinders or charcoals anymore. It uses 1560-watts of power for its heating element and can heat up to 280 square inches of cooking space in no time. Added to this, it comes fully assembled and features infinite burner control for easier maintenance of the grill’s temperature. As a portable gas grill that will likely appeal to novice cooks and experienced chefs alike, the accessibility of the Q 1200 is a major selling point. The battery-powered electronic ignition is the same you will find on a high-end, full-size grill. The integrated thermometer — available from 150°F to 600°F — allows you to accurately monitor internal temperatures without having to lift the lid and lose critical heat.

Instead of just ordering a pizza, he and his coworkers decided to have a parking lot cookout at lunchtime, and I offered to let them use the Weber to test its portability. He packed up the grill in the bed of his truck, and while he was surprised at its weight—which is more than 40 pounds—he really liked that it felt sturdy and durable. Using the grill, he was able to cook easily for himself and four coworkers, and they all agreed that the burgers and hot dogs came out great.

That was hot enough for my needs, so I put my burger on the grill and let it cook. The meat was cooked to perfection in around 10 minutes, and I was really impressed at the heat put out by the grill’s 12,000 BTU burner. Coming to the cooking capacity, it has a total space of 280 square inches with the main burner providing BTU-per-hour. This ensures that your grill reaches a temperature of 550-degree in under 10 minutes.

At the same time, the structure ensures stability – even with the additional weight of food. Next, I wanted to see how well I could control the temperature for lower-slower grilling candidates. There’s just one knob to control the fuel output and while the temp did drop when I lowered it, it was difficult to precisely control the temp one way or the other.
