Weber Q1200 Review: Portable Beauty or a Overweight Beast?

The Q line of grills still have all of the same features, the same specifications and most importantly, they all operate the same and produce the same results. One of the major selling points of this grill is its two fold-out side tables, which are each 12.5 x 13.5 inches. They’re the perfect spot to place a plate, condiments, and grilling tools, and I used them pretty much every time I grilled. Webers are not cheap, but when you consider that they last decades, the price is easy to justify.

Max bottles his own barbecue sauce recipes and now sells them around the country. What is great about cast iron is its ability to retain heat. After all, if portability weber q is what you are after, you also want to keep things simple. The pared down design is also great for an easier grilling experience, particularly for newbies.

Portable grilling gets an upgrade by the masters at Weber. The weber charcoal grill 2200 is an attractive little grill if I do say so myself. It has a tan lid with the Q series logo on top, and it’s made up of a cast aluminum lid and body supported by a reinforced nylon frame. The brand also sells cast iron griddles you can swap in for more versatility. The Weber Q 3200 has the largest cooking area of all the Weber Q gas grills with 393 square inches of grilling space. The Q 3200 also comes with a stand for the grill, making it the only freestanding Weber Q model.

Other features include a thermometer built into the hood and two Q-shaped burners instead of one. Either of these grills would be great for those that don’t have the room for a full-size grill but still want the feel of a full-sized gas barbecue. Both of the 3200 models include folding side tables for storage in tight areas. They both accept both the 14.1oz and 16.4oz disposable propane bottles.

As with most of these, you do have to be wary of them – they tend to be off by a few degrees in either direction. You will have no problem getting up to 500 Fahrenheit degrees, something that you can expect with larger grills. Thus, you can easily tackle all kinds of meat and can even give searing a try. Last, but certainly, not least there is the stainless steel burner that offers both quality as well as power. Please see the links I’ve listed in the table for each Weber Q Grill to further your research. There are links to retailers and to my own detailed reviews and price comparisons.

I had leftover ground beef in the fridge, so I decided to grill up a burger for dinner. When you make rubs at home we recommend you add salt first them the herbs and spices because salt penetrates deep and the other stuff remains on the surface. We put salt in these bottled rubs because all commercial rubs have salt and consumers expect it. You can still use these as a dry brine, just sprinkle the rub on well in advance to give the salt time to penetrate. For very thick cuts of meat, we recommend adding a bit more salt.

If you are looking for a temperature higher than this, though, you may find the Weber Q 2200 faltering. Of course, this is true of bigger and more expensive grills. I also can’t imagine too many instances when you would need this kind of power, especially when grilling in small outdoor spaces. What’s more, the domed lid creates space for larger roasts. A whole chicken or even a small brisket shouldn’t be too much hard work on this grill. Thus, you do have a few more options for what you can cook with the Weber Q2200.

The manufacturer’s warranty on all of these grills is outstanding. The warranty on the cast aluminum body and Thermoset/Thermoplastic parts is 5 years. Warranties on all other parts are for 2 years, which is more than enough time to work out any defects that might be present.

I have been using grills since I was in my teens and have had my fair share of experiences with a wide varieties of brands and models. Weber grills are known as being some of the best but how does the Q 2200 hold up? Well, with great temperature regulation, grilling capabilities, heat retention, and ease of use, it readily measures up.

The LP model comes with an adaptor hose to connect to a 20lb propane tank. The natural gas model includes a hose and fittings to connect to a barbecue service line, should you have one. The Weber Q 1200 is one of three grills in the Q 1000 series.
