In this section, we’ll breakdown some of the most obvious pros and cons to the Vortex® 6qt air fryer. These are all based on first-hand experience after using this air fryer for 2+ years. When you put food on multiple trays at at time, it doesn’t cook evenly, so you must swap the trays halfway through your cooking time. Getting the rotisserie basket in the first few times is the hardest part.

What is cool about this, is that halfway through your cook cycle, it will beep at you and tell you to flip your food. Rotisserie Basket – At first, I wasn’t sure what to do with it or if I would use it, but I actually use it a lot. I also put anything that won’t fall apart with the tossing into it.
Both the insert and the basket are coated with non-stick, which means they mostly wipe clean and then need a little scrubbing with some dish soap and water. With this air fryer you get a removable air fryer insert grid which can be lifted and removed using a hook in the center of the grid. The drawer is not quite square, and we found it a little confusing to fit this inside the air fryer on the first use. Once we realised it needed to be turned 90 degrees, this was easy enough.
Its hot air vents were at the back rather than the top, which meant we needed to bring it forward on the countertop, too. It’s good, but many food items (especially frozen foods) haven’t yet been tested in the air fryer so it doesn’t have all the answers. It might take getting used to if you have had a different air fryer but we really like it because it doesn’t start counting down cooking time until it’s ready to start cooking.
In theory the replacement filters can be bought directly at Instant Brands’ site, but they are not yet available for purchase. The brand reports that they’ll be in stock soon, but the air fryer does come with two filters included. This is encouraging, because you can find many replacements and added parts for a number of the best Instant Pots on this same site. The viewing window really came into its own when we were cooking our chicken tenders as we could instantly see just how brown and crispy they were looking without having to open the drawer.
We haven’t tried this feature yet but we are going to buy a Vortex® with this clear basket in the very near future to test it. Eric’s parents have an Instant™ Vortex® Plus 6-in-1 that is a direct step up from ours. The Instant™ Vortex® Plus 6-in-1 model might also comes with a “dehydrate” setting. Yes, it has a function known as auto-turn off which means it’s always on a timer. When the timer runs out, it says “End” and then turns itself off.
The time and temperature are adjustable and the cooking time counts down on the digital display. A cooking progress bar from preheating to cooking is also a great addition. You don’t have to kiss fried foods goodbye entirely if you’re watching your waistline, though. Over the last few years, air fryers have boomed in popularity for lightening up deep-fried goodness for a more heart-friendly meal at home. Lining the bottom of an air fryer basket with foil may make cleanup easier and help you remove food from the basket when it’s done cooking.
Like with the Instant Pot, there will be a learning curve with the Plus. It isn’t as straightforward as following the oven or air-fry directions on your packaged foods. You’ll probably need to lower the temperature while you’re baking and the air fry mode may need to run longer than expected.
Bacon cooked on air fry was one of my favorite results in testing. It was crispy and the design of the slotted baking tray allows grease to drip through to a foil-lined crumb tray below, making cleanup nice and easy.
