However, we wouldn’t say that it effortlessly mixes dense doughs, as it rattles around and seems to struggle a bit when dealing with cookie dough. Aside from washing the bowl and attachments, there was no setup required before the first use. To install the attachments, we simply pushed them onto the shaft.

While visiting a friend in Vermont I stopped in a small consignment store in the little town of White River Junction, Vermont (Pop. 2,286), and a box in the corner caught my eye. In it was an old stand mixer, and though it was covered in grime, nonfunctional, and lacking its beaters, I knew I had found a gem. If the recipes you like to make include thick doughs, a more powerful motor will be well worth any additional cost.
Unlike all the other mixers we reviewed, the Hamilton Beach’s attachments simply went straight into the sockets where they were supposed to go, and you pull them straight out to remove them. With other mixers, we always had to turn an attachment either to the left or right to just the right alignment to unlock it and then pull it out. The lack of locking attachments isn’t a big deal, but in our opinion isn’t as safe. This is an inexpensive mixer, making it affordable for just about anyone who needs to ditch the hand mixer and upgrade to something easier. It’s not the largest or most robust mixer, but it did almost everything we asked it to do.
