WEBER GENESIS II LX S-640

Today we’re checking out a sleek, high-end gas grill in our Weber Genesis ii e-310 Review. From 1999 to 2001 there was a period of tremendous growth for the business. Several additional product lines were added and delivery/setup services were expanded. The Genesis II produced patties with a decent crust but considerable char too.

The Genesis II took 10 minutes and 10 seconds for its burgers to finish, just 5 seconds faster than the Char-Broil SmartChef Tru-Infrared. It is the flagship product among the Weber catalogue for a reason. In the end, this grill is everything one could ever hope for in a grill. It has prepared everything you didn’t even know you needed. From the moment you buy this grill, you will be satisfied with what it can do from its beautiful, stylish stainless-steel design to its powerful food searing abilities. This grill really can do it all, and if you can afford it, I would not waste my time looking at other grills.

While Weber’s sear zone has been smaller in the past, this time they upped the size so you can get multiple steaks seared at once so everyone can eat at the same time. This is where things get quite different from the two model lines. The Spirit grill line offers a 10-year limited warranty while the Genesis II offers a 10-year full warranty. After Weber brought out its II line in 2017, many people were left disappointed. That being said, Weber seemed to take the complaints into account, drastically improving the grills in the 2019 drop. When comparing the Weber Genesis, this grill comes up most often.

Most orders under $199 will receive $6.49 flat rate shipping. Some irregular shaped or oversized items may include a special handling charge. The charge will show on the product detail page of applicable products. One point we are always stressing is the importance of owning a good digital probe thermometer. Since the grill rests on an open cart, it doesn’t feel overly bulky.

But after more rigorous testing, the grill proved to have some serious weaknesses. This thing is built like a tank, but it’s surprisingly underpowered. The updated PUREBLUE (originally called GS4) grilling system is one of the main features of the Genesis and Spirit II lines but not the Spirit line we are discussing today.

Still, the lid does have a large built-in thermometer, a Weber standard feature the Char-Broil SmartChef Tru-Infrared lacks. The other gas-grilling weak spot I hoped this Weber could overcome is obtaining a good, hard sear. I picked up a ribeye and let the grill preheat for 15 minutes, which left the heat deflectors glowing orange. I patted the steak dry, salted and peppered it, then set it on the grill and let it rip for five minutes on a dial setting Weber calls High+, the LX line’s version of going to 11.

Ever since Weber came out with their Genesis II E-310, there has been quite a lot of skepticism surrounding this gas grill. Most grills have a mechanical igniter of either the push-button or rotary design. More convenient is a battery-operated electronic igniter, which usually ignites the gas on the first try. Some grills also portable bbq have lighting holes, on the side of or beneath the grill, that can be used with a match should the igniter fail. While burners remain the grill’s most-replaced part, most are warranted for only 3 to 5 years. An indication of the sturdiness of the gas grill, based on our rigidity test and judgments of our expert testers.

Some average-size grills have up to four burners with corresponding controls large grills often have six. Additional burner controls generally allow the cook more flexibility. You start by building-up the frame and then dropping the firebox into the frame, taking care to properly route the electrical wiring and gas line around the grill frame. There are lots of little screws and washers and clips and do-dads…you’ll want to take your time and exercise patience when assembling one of these grills. However, when you start looking more closely at other components, they don’t seem as substantial. The work surfaces, the control panel, some of the smaller pieces on the back side of the grill, and especially the cover that visually screens the propane tank seem quite flimsy.

A few days later, when it was warmer and less breezy, I tried again. It took took 20 minutes post preheat, but I finally hit my 225 degree benchmark using just the left burner. More than that, though, was too much to ask of just one burner. Two burners could reach higher temps quickly, leaving just a third of the grill available for indirect grilling.
