Boosting power over the original by 20%, the 360 Heurist is just about the most powerful vacuum cleaner I’ve used, easily dealing with mess on all surfaces from hard floors to carpet. Thanks to the motorised brush that runs the entire width of the vacuum cleaner, you get full suction power right up to the edges of rooms, doing away with the need for side-sweeping brushes. We ran the 360 Eye through a series of tests on plush mid-pile carpet, thinner berber carpet, and hardwood floors. On each surface we scored its ability to pick up 2.5 ounces of rice, 0.2 ounces of pet hair, and 1.25 ounces of sand. Over two dozen test runs later and the 360 Eye ended up scoring well compared to many of the non-smart robot vacuums we’ve reviewed, but not as well as either the Roomba 980 or the Neato Botvac Connected overall.
Despite not being able to see in the dark, we were impressed by how well Dyson’s original robotic cleaner, the 360 Eye, cleaned. It picked up brilliantly, especially on carpets, and thankfully the 2.0 version continues, and improves upon, this tradition, with powerful cleaning that puts the competition to shame. Roborock continue to close ground on Roomba with some genuinely useful innovation, a great app and better than expected value. If it’s a basic clean you’re after, the lowest setting is relatively quiet while there’s three higher settings giving you room to ramp things up for bigger messes—but, then, it does get quite loud . There’s also a decent size water tank and the option to use a reusable mop or some disposable mops when your hard floors need a stronger once over.
This would tally with Dyson’s past comments that the Heurist was not quite right for US homes. Allowing the vacuum to get under more items of furniture would certainly help with sales. Branding on the device suggests it will also use Dyson’s new Hyperdymium motors.
For homes with such terrain you want a robot vacuum with a good amount of clearance, so its front does not get stuck on raised surfaces. Chunky wheels able to move in and out of the frame also increase that clearance when needed. Dyson goes even further, using a tank track-like underside rather than wheels. The G30 Edge (£230) is a dinky little cleaner that does a good job tackling the dusty tumbleweeds. While the battery life and suction has improved greatly, this is not a fast cleaner, and if you have a large, cluttered house it will almost certainly need a halfway recharge before completing the job. It’s not an issue really, as you can schedule it to clean when you’re not around.

The product blurb suggests it can detect and avoid objects as small as 5x3cm, so trainers (assuming the laces aren’t trailing), toys, and general clutter can be smoothly navigated. The self-emptying bin is our favourite feature for sheer convenience, but its smart maps come a close second. You know which rooms need cleaning and which are too cluttered.
Finally, this vacuum comes with the same lightweight charging dock that shipped with the 360 Eye. It can fold up when not in use and takes up very little floor space. Using a coin in the slot at the end, you can slide out the brush to cut away any hair that has become wrapped around its centre, although Dyson doesn’t provide a tool to do this. There are handy grooves in the bar, though, so slipping in a pair of scissors to cut away any mess is easy enough. You can split your home up into zones and rooms, too, using the app to select the options and vacuum power mode you want to use on each.
