Gear System The Schwinn Men’s High Timber Mountain Bike comes equipped with SRAM gripped gears, offering 21 gears which is just about enough to do casual rounds in the neighborhood. However, some advanced riders will bemoan the deficiency of more gears, deeming the 21 a little too limiting in their quest to unlock the bike’s full power. Considering this is a bike designed for casual use, though, this is forgivable, more so when you consider its price point.
The elliptical chainrings are designed to make it easier to peddle in a higher gear so you can supply more power to the rear wheel and ride more efficiently. Due to the elliptical shape, the radius of the Biopace chainrings changes as you peddle. When the schwinn cruiser bike smaller radius section engages with the chain, pedaling becomes easier. The best part of the Schwinn High Sierra is the 4130 Chromoly steel frame and fork. The frame was fillet brazed in the front and TIG welded at the back and at the bottom bracket.

The Schwinn High Timber is a traditional steel hardtail mountain bike inspired by bikes of the 1990s. With a simple design and understated style paired with modern components, this bike may be the closest to a go-anywhere, do-almost-anything mountain bike. The tires are suitable for light to medium-duty off-road riding, but should also perform well on hard-pack trails and pavement. As an entry-level hardtail, the Schwinn Axum is best suited for easy to moderate trails.

Nearly maintenance free for 38 years, i blew a rear sprocket gear 3 years ago but every thing but the seat and tires remain original. It’s a great bike and shifts better than the grandkids stuff. The High Sierra features a nice mix of high-end components from Shimano, Suntour, Dia-Compe, and other manufacturers of the day. The Chromoly schwinn bicycles steel frame, in particular, is of excellent quality. Mongoose’s line of full-suspension bikes is much more rugged than the Schwinn line of full-suspension bikes. However, the price reflects the superiority of the brand with a full-suspension model offered at nearly double the price of Schwinn’s most expensive mountain bike.
