My old series 5 is still working and actually is much lighter and faster and closer shave. I haven’t used an electric razor for over 20 years due to getting a rash from them and I bought this to give it a go. It also has the added benefit of adjusting the pressure point for the shaving head which adapts itself according to the surface that it is on. So, no matter which surface of the skin and which area is being shaved the appropriate amount of pressure is adjusted by the machine itself. The trimmer of Series 5 slides out from the back of the shaving head.

Simply press the button in with your thumb while sliding upwards and the trimmer will spring right up. Braun is the only brand to use a coiled cord with their charger. I personally prefer the older Series 7 to the Series 5. It’s a bit more powerful, a bit more refined and a bit gentler to the skin. I would pay an extra $50 for that, but it may not be worth it for other users. Also, given the specifics of the situation, you should check with a dermatologist just to get a confirmation that an electric shaver is safe to use. He has some skin damage from sun exposure so would need a sensitive shave so i was leaning towards the 5190cc as you indicated that it was good for sensitive skin. One of the great aspects about the Remington Shaver electric shavers is that they are all waterproof up to 5m. This doesn’t mean that you need to take it with you to the bottom of the swimming pool, but it does mean that you can really easily keep it clean. It seems to prefer drawing blood over trimming the hairs in my neck. This shaver is heavy, bulky and struggles as soon as it moves from a flat surface. I cut less with a safety razor than this terrible electric shaver.
You only need to keep in mind your grooming needs and go for the shaver which has the accessories to meet your requirements. Along with 5050Cs, Braun also released 5018s and 5020s. In essence, these are different configurations of the same shaver.
In our Series 7 review we looked at how you could take the head of the series 7 and slide perfectly on to of the Series 5, picture below. The beard trimmer is identical to that of the Series 9. Even things like button placement and charging port are almost the same. The Philips Norelco Shaver is definitely one of the nicer looking shavers on the market.
