As mentioned previously, the shaving heads of the Series 3 and the new Series 5 are strikingly similar. Men with sensitive skin that usually shave more often can consider the 5018s.
Unlike Series 5, the Braun Series 7 has its trimmer placed in front of and perpendicular to the shaver. This placement, unfortunately, does not resolve the problem that the previous models have. That said, we have a better experience trimming with this electric shaver than the series 5. Like theBraun Series 7 Remington Shaver 790cc-4, the Series 5 has an auto-sensing motor that adapts its power to the density of your beard to minimize pressure on your skin. ThePhilips Norelco 7500is another good choice for sensitive skin, especially if you’re a fan of rotary shavers. Again, the new Series 5 shavers are made with EasyClean system.
When the battery is almost drained, the red plug icon will light up, indicating that you must charge it. Nevertheless, the battery life has been solid during my tests with the Series s. And in all honesty, the new Series 5 is quite a bit cheaper. I just don’t think that the Series 5 name should be used as it will just cause more confusion. It allowed me to shave with less wrist work, especially when shaving below the jawline. On the bottom of the razor there’s the typical Braun charging port.
Pressing and holding the power button for another 3 seconds will disable travel lock. Barely bigger than your thumb, the cleaning brush beats picking hair clippings out of your shaver by hand. For anyone looking for a top-notch foil shaver without a premium price tag the Series 5 has a lot to offer the customer. Given that they are waterproof, you can clean it after every couple of shaves under running water, and that should do the job. Some people even recommend using sewing machine oil around once a week to lubricate the blades, but that’s your choice. As it is also a bit clunky with lower visibility, this trimmer probably won’t replace your dedicated trimmer for such areas, but it is a nice addition to the shaver.
In order to find that out, I inserted a brand new cleaning cartridge into the station and performed an automatic cleaning cycle right after my thorough manual cleaning. It’s not the closest shaving electric razor in this price category — that title goes to the Panasonic Arc 4 — but most men will probably be satisfied with the results. The shaving head looks and feels of high quality and snaps securely in place. It also pops out easily when you need to clean it manually. The 5190cc variation on the other hand and all the newer wet&dry Series 5 shavers will only work cordless as a safety precaution. This is carried out via the head locking switch located on the front of the shaver, just below the shaving head.
In our Series 7 review we looked at how you could take the head of the series 7 and slide perfectly on to of the Series 5, picture below. The beard trimmer is identical to that of the Series 9. Even things like button placement and charging port are almost the same. The Braun Series 5 is definitely one of the nicer looking shavers on the market.
