Dysons next robot vacuum cleaner revealed in FCC filings with new design

For those who have the space, the time you spend with the Dyson 360 Heurist will prove worth it in the long run in terms of the quality of clean and the level of suction you get. Once up and running, the only areas of your home that the vacuum will struggle to reach are the corners of rooms. Before setting foot in my house, I knew that it wasn’t charging because of the companion app, which offers status updates and notifications when things go wrong.

There are two main issues you might encounter when using a robot vacuum in a flat or home with thick carpet. It may struggle to get up onto chunky rugs and the suction force may not be strong enough to pull dirt out of the fibres. If you have unreliable Wi-Fi at home you may experience some issues with some of the most advanced robot vacuums, such as the Dyson 360 Heurist. Reports of Wi-Fi drop-outs dyson robot vacuum are fairly common with this model, and it does not include a standalone remote so you do need a connection to a phone for full control. Comparing the two against each other though, I would pay for the Roomba 980 before I ever considered the Dyson 360 Eye. The added features, extra sensors, and longevity of the reliable brand still mean something and its performance is still top notch.

The Roomba 980 has a top mount video camera that allows it to map the cleaning area with a visual map. The iAdapt 2.0 technology stores this map rendering in the robot’s memory to allow it to clean more efficiently. It will note furniture location, obstacles and drops, ledges and stairs and remember their location for the next cleaning cycle. Prior to The Verge’s finding, rumours had begun to swirl about the features that might appear in the next . This amazing piece of technology isn’t just something which moves mindlessly around the room in on a preset path. It actually uses a panoramic 360 degree lens to observe its surroundings, and then uses geometry, trigonometry, and probability theory to map the room and compute the optimal route through it.

At 2,200 Pascals, theiRobot Roomba s9+ has extremely powerful suction and that means it’s an excellent option for those with a lot of carpet. It also automatically detects the type of floor surface it’s on, ramping up or lowering the suction accordingly. The 3,300mAh battery, meanwhile, keeps the bot running for up to an impressive 120 minutes at a time. Its mapping system is also one of the best we’ve seen and the app that accompanies it is a joy to use. Although other robot vacuums tend to have less suction power than human-directed vacuums, they make up for this by taking several passes at each room.

That allows high-level goals and constraints to be applied on top of lower-level programming. The result is an autonomy system that can enjoy many of the benefits of machine learning, while also providing the kind of safety and explainability that the Army needs. The camera in the Dyson 360 Eye robot vacuum takes up to 30 frames per second—enabling the machine to effectively interpret its surroundings. However, the added arm is going to make the design much more bulky and it’s difficult to tell how effectively it would clean the stairs as it climbs.

Hence you will need to select a single suction level and stick with it, unless you indulge in the faff of programming it in the Dyson app to ramp up the power in certain areas. This reviewer tried it out on the highest power and it sucked big time, in a good way. However, the battery started depleting rapidly and after around 30 minutes it was desperate to get back to its base for a recharge. So I set it to the lowest suction level and, lo and behold, it still sucked well while the battery lasted a full 63 minutes – and this was on a combination of hard floor, carpet and lots of rugs. Truly, this is what we all dreamed of when the idea of robot vacuum cleaners was first mooted.

Allowing the vacuum to get under more items of furniture would certainly help with sales. While the battery life and suction has improved greatly, this is not a fast cleaner, and if you have a large, cluttered house it will almost certainly need a halfway recharge before completing the job. It’s not an issue really, as you can schedule it to clean when you’re not around. Connecting the Heurist to our Wi-Fi took a few seconds, and, unlike the original, didn’t require the inputting of serial numbers, just our Wi-Fi password and the Dyson Link app. Once connected and charged, we could map rooms , assign safe zones, adjust the power levels for different floor types, and schedule cleaning jobs. We did have some connectivity issues where the Heurist dropped off the network, but overall, it was there when we needed it.
