Innovation is great, but if the string doesn’t cut, the rest doesn’t matter. EGO rates their latest string trimmer for both 0.080″ and 0.095″ line and it comes pre-spooled with 0.095″. We recommend you stay with the thicker line. The Powerload trimmer handles it well and you get better cutting and durability. What’s not clear yet is whether the new PowerLoad multi-head string trimmer attachment will work with the original EGO powerhead.

As I recall, the only pain in the is their convoluted product registration process, and customer service requires a speaker phone and a Netflix movie to watch. They supposedly have a call-back option, but that never works. Just be prepared to wait 45 minutes or so.
Anyway I can edge the whole property and trim all I need to (around the house – front landscaping – etc) all on one battery charge. Yes I admit if you had more you might want to invest in another battery and they aren’t cheap. I think battery powered stuff is great for people that don’t know how or want to properly maintain gas powered equipment. I think you pay more for that convenience.

By the way, if and when I call support on anything I have reviewed, I do so anonimously to avoid any special treatment. I’m interested in battery powered lawn equipment. However, there are a few issues I still have with them.
This includes a 5-year tool warranty and a 3-year battery warranty. The POWERLOAD String Trimmer is much, much quieter than my gas trimmer and it also doesn’t vibrate my arms into numbness like the gas model does. It’s great that technology today allows a battery trimmer that matches the power of a gas model. After using the EGO for many days, I can’t imagine going back to my gas trimmer. Whereas the other EGO straight shaft trimmer has the motor at the battery and a drive shaft.
Just the “low” setting is more than enough to get the job done. We put the 56v EGO String trimmer in the hands of a lawncare pro, and we also put it to work in the forest behind our shop. This unit is definitely not lacking in power, and it’s pretty light too. The knee and waist-high weeds and grass did not seem to bother the EGO. We like that they’ve spec’d this unit to run with typical commercial-grade 0.095″ trimmer line.
I’d left the trimmer on the ground and I accidentally stepped on just the plastic trigger snapping it off right at the housing. No problem I thought, I’ll order a replacement. Opened it up, removed the plastic trigger, looked online for the part number and found out that Ego wouldn’t sell the part to me.
